Serkan Kurtuluş, futbola Bursaspor altyapısında başladı.

Sağ bek ve orta sahanın sağında görev yapan genç oyuncu çok kısa sürede Bursaspor A Takımı'na yükseldi. 16 yaşındayken (Kasım 2006) Turkcell Süper Lig'de Beşiktaş - Bursaspor maçında sahaya çıkarak, Süper Lig'de forma giyen en genç oyuncu ünvanını aldı.

Serkan Kurtuluş, 5 kez U-15, 17 kez U-16, 17 kez U-17, 4 kez U-18, 6 kez U-19 ve 1 kere de A-2 Milli takımlarında görev aldı.

Serkan, 3 Eylül 2008'de Galatasaray'la 2013 yılına kadar sürecek sözleşmeye imza attı.
